Kansas Day Commemoration at Fort Hays State Historic Site

HAYS, KS—The Kansas Historical Society announced that Fort Hays State Historic Site will host a Kansas Day event Friday, January 27. This event marks the 151st anniversary of Kansas statehood, January 29, 1861. Schools and homeschooling groups are encouraged to attend this free event and may call Fort Hays at 785-625-6812 for more information or to reserve a spot. Fort Hays is located four miles south of I-70 exit 157 at Hays.
Performances and presentations include “Out of the Bedroll,” a first-person interpretation about Kansas cowboys by Don Rowlison; “Flint Knapping and Indian Weapons,” a demonstration by Gary Schuler; and “Music and Entertainment at the Fort,” a first-person interpretation by Marla Matkin.
